To start with, Monday was a pretty average day. One of the boys in my room drew me a picture over the weekend- needless to say, my fridge is getting very full of my students artwork. It definitely reminds me of home though, which is nice! Monday we were doing more testing so I didn't do any teaching.
Tuesday was a struggling day for me. I became very frustrated with my students because all of a sudden they lost respect for me as a teacher and went crazy. in the hallway going from lunch to recess and then recess to related arts they were crazy and made me look like a complete fool. I was so embarrassed. They all wrote notes home to their parents describing their behavior and I signed it. I discovered that this is a good way to get the children to think about how they act because they have to think about what they did and why they are in trouble in order to write the note home. This is a new behavior plan that we have implemented- so far so good!
Wednesday, today, was so much better. My children were back to normal (thank goodness). I am starting to think that their craziness was due to the testing, but I also think that changing my direction towards them and the punishment has definitely helped as well. I taught math today and it went well. The children did a good job learning how to read charts and figure out the differences between the data given.
I have seen this week that testing brings out the worst in the children as well as the teachers- too much stress!! I am going to work on my patience and my sternness with the children and I am hoping for great results- so far I am seeing the good in my efforts. This being said, even though there bad days, the good days make the job all worth while!
