Our day started out to be just fine. They were a little rambunctious, but easily calmed down once we started Science and got into our routine. The rest of the morning went pretty smoothly. I am learning to not fight the small things in the room. I also learning that when I expect the children to sit still and listen that this is not gong to happen- especially on a rainy day. I am expecting the best form my students as always, but I am beginning to settle for THEIR best, not what I THINK is the best. This is helping me to stop being such a stress ball!
The afternoon was a whole new ball game compared to the morning. They had indoor recess because of the rain, then PE (and PE makes them crazy anyways), then we had our snack from the Fruits and Vegetables Grant- apples- then it was math time. Let me just say this: indoor recess+ PE+ snack time= CrAzY children!!! They were bouncing off the walls, not listening, breaking our classroom rules, shouting out, being rude, even belching out loud in the middle of what I was teaching!! This made the afternoon very frustrating- but I survived and the only thing was that I was tired at the end of the day. I was proud of myself because, even though they were crazy, I was in control and didn't have to raise my voice. I have discovered that when they start to go wild, the more quietly I talk, the more quiet they get!! This is now my secret weapon and it works wonderfully.
After school today, since it is Wednesday, I had a meeting with my supervisor and that was good then I had class for 2.5 hours. In class we talked about classroom management and it was perfect because we had all had pretty tough days due to the rain!
I am learning a lot each and every day. I am eagerly anticipating my 2 weeks of full time teaching starting on Monday!!
Let's hope for bright, sunshiny days!!!!
