changing the world
I want to teach to change children's lives. I want to be a positive influence on them and let them know that school is important. This is exactly why I want to teach in a inner city school. I just read a book: " Leaving Microsoft to Change the World" by John Wood. It was such a great book about a man who worked for Microsoft in the early years and realized on a trip to Nepal that he wanted to help their schools and children. He made a very brave choice to leave his job and start a non- profit organization called "room to read" in order to raise money and books for these children so they could have books and afford to go to to school. He has built an amazing organization and help thousands of children, esp. girls, in 3rd world countries go to school and learn how to read. I highly recommend reading this book and visiting the website: www.roomtoread.org
I think that American's are very lucky to have the freedom to go to the library and get a book and take it for granted. I want to encourage everyone to donate and see how you can help- even if it is just passing on the word about the book and organization!
