So far this semester I have had a new, very eventful day, everyday. My class never fails to surprise me in some way at least once a day. There is so much tell, there are just not enough hours in the day to share it all.
I will start this blog with today's event: bullying. Apparently there has been some very harmful bullying going on within my room without my or my coaching teacher's knowledge. It breaks my heart to know that this little girl was being pushed around so horribly. My coaching teacher took a great handle on the situation and I took over teaching for the afternoon. I taught Math and Social Studies right off the top of my head and the children did very well.
After school this afternoon, I began to think about bullying and how prominent it really is in our society today. I decided to find the definition of bullying and dictionary.com says the following:
noun| 1. | a blustering, quarrelsome, overbearing person who habitually badgers and intimidates smaller or weaker people. |
| 2. | Archaic. a man hired to do violence. |
| 3. | Obsolete. a pimp; procurer. |
| 4. | Obsolete. good friend; good fellow. |
| 5. | Obsolete. sweetheart; darling.
I find it ironic that a word used for someone who is overbearing and intimidates smaller, weaker people, can also be a good friend?!? This leads me to think that maybe bullying is more common than we think because it happens amongst the closest of friends....
Needless to say, I learned a lot again today and tomorrow will be filled with more surprises..especially since we are going on a field trip! |
