my first 5k

Today I ran my first 5k race! I finished in 39 minutes - with no training. I just set out this morning wondering if I could do it, and i did! I am so proud of myself! This was the St. Jude Marathon weekend, so it was a family affair- dad did the 1/2 marathon in under 2hours, mom and I did the 5k- she finished just under 50 minutes! I will say that the children of St. Jude are such an inspiration and when I felt like I wasn't going to be able to go on, I thought about the trials and tribulations that those children go through on a daily basis, and how this is so small compared to that. If they can survive childhood cancer, I can run 3.1 miles! One dad that passed me with his 2 young girls who were complaining "I can't feel my legs anymore" said them "some of the children at St. Jude don't have legs, so keep running for them!" I thought it was harsh at them time, but it also made me think about how true that is, so I, also feeling weak and tired, picked up the pace and ran a little faster! I love St. Jude and all the wonderful things they do for children with cancer! If you would like to make a donation to the hopsital, there are many ways to do so: shop at the store online or just make a donation: https://shop.stjude.org/GiftCatalog/donation.do?cID=13522&pID=18290&fnl=FaceSuperNav
