Your going to be happy just teaching?!?

Today in one of my classes about schools and communities, we were having a discussion about women in the teaching field. My professor said that he cannot truly believe that every women would possibly want to teach kindergarten for the rest of her life and be perfectly happy. I was shocked by this statement! He said that we should be ashamed to feel this way because we should want to further ourselves and go into administration. I was very hurt by this comment as what I ultimately desire to do is teach kindergarten for as long as I possibly can... That is exactly what I want and there is nothing wrong with that. I love children and I want to make a difference in their lives, that is why I have chosen the profession that I have. I was just putting this out there to see what others thought on this... Should women really feel ashamed for wanting to "just teach"? I don't think so!!

  1. No person should ever let anyone make them feel inferior for doing a job that they adore. What kind of world would we have without teachers? We would not have a very good one.;) I have a baseball bat I can introduce that professor to if you'd like! You keep doing what makes you happy! At the end of the day, you have to do what's right for you. For me, it's working towards a degree that I can use to work with infants/children in a hospital setting. For you, it's educating those precious children by teaching. Never feel ashamed for doing something that makes you happy and positively impacts other people!

Don't let him get to you. Some people are just unhappy and rude.
